COLOMBO: The debate surrounding Usman Tariq’s bowling action and his growing stature as Pakistan’s frontline spin spearhead reverberated across Colombo on the eve of the high-voltage clash, with skipper Salman Ali Agha coming out strongly in defence of his strike weapon and branding him the team’s “triumph card.”

Addressing a crowded media interaction, Salman dismissed all doubts over Usman’s action, making it clear that the spinner has already passed the required scrutiny.

“He has cleared his action twice and I don’t see anything wrong with him. He is our main bowler and a triumph card on which we are banking,” Salman said with conviction, underlining the management’s complete faith in the bowler.

Usman’s unorthodox style, subtle variations and ability to extract grip even from slow, low Colombo surfaces have made him a constant talking point in the build-up. In conditions expected to assist spinners, Pakistan appear ready to revolve their bowling strategy around him, trusting his knack for breaking partnerships and building pressure in the middle overs.

Across the divide, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav struck a composed yet confident tone, insisting that his batting unit has prepared thoroughly to counter the spinner’s threat.

“Whatever is there, we have chalked up a plan to tackle him in the best possible way. We know his bowling is a bit different but we are ready to take him on,” Suryakumar said, hinting at a tactical battle within the larger contest.

With both captains openly acknowledging Usman’s potential impact, the stage is set for a gripping duel-Pakistan banking on their ‘triumph card,’ and India determined to neutralize it. On a surface likely to reward patience and precision, Usman Tariq’s spells could well tilt the balance in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
