LONDON: Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday said Britain needed to be able to stand tall in a “perilous world,” when asked whether he would be able to stay in power after surviving the toughest test of his leadership to date.

“I’m absolutely clear about what I stand for, who I’m standing for, and what I’m fighting for,” Starmer told broadcasters. “We are in a perilous world internationally, and we have to stand tall on the international stage.”

The British premier, who faced mounting pressure on his leadership over the appointment of former ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson, also said he would be leading the Labour Party in the next general election by 2029.

Starmer said he would never walk away from his mandate, amid mounting pressure on his leadership over the appointment of former ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson.

“I will never walk away from the mandate that I was given to change this country,” Starmer said. “I will never walk away from the people that I’m charged with fighting for, and I will never walk away from the country that I love.”
