PESHAWAR: KP Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Wednesday announced an increase in the relief package for operation-affected families in Kurram tribal district from Rs110,000 to Rs230,000.
He made the announcement during his visit to Kurram where he met the Temporary Displaced Persons (TDPs) from the central part of Kurram. Provincial Minister for Relief Aqibullah and KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah accompanied the chief minister during the visit.
The chief minister listened to issues faced by the TDPs. He issued directives on the spot for their immediate resolution. He said that displaced persons living with host families would also be entitled to the relief package.
The chief minister said that all the affected families would be provided assistance on the same pattern as given to displaced persons of Khyber District.Emphasising social harmony, he said the society must move forward by setting aside mutual and sectarian differences and focus on development and prosperity. He announced the resolution of longstanding issue of dual addresses of tribal displaced persons.
Speaking to the affected families, the chief minister assured them that all their demands would be reviewed and relief packages would be extended to them on the pattern of one offered in Khyber district.
Addressing the gathering, he stated that the KP government would not abandon the victims and would ensure all possible assistance. He said that tribal people had rendered immense sacrifices for the country, leaving behind their homes and livelihoods, and their sacrifices cannot be ignored. The chief minister directed the relevant authorities to ensure maximum facilities for the affected families of Kurram and reiterated that the provincial government stands firmly with them and will utilise all available resources to address their issues.
Later, he visited Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Sadda. He inaugurated more facilities, upgrading the hospital of Category C to Category B. He inaugurated the Emergency Block at Sadda Hospital, Marghan Road, in central Kurram and the Residential Block of Government Degree College, Sadda.
