KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that it will begin providing a urea fertiliser subsidy to verified farmers under the Sindh Wheat Growers Support Programme from Monday (February 2).
Sindh Minister for Agriculture Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar said the subsidy disbursement will start as scheduled, adding that more than Rs12 billion has been released to Sindh Bank for the second phase of the programme. He said a list of 212,171 verified wheat farmers has already been shared with the bank.
Under the scheme, verified wheat growers will receive Rs8,000 per acre as a urea fertiliser subsidy. The amount can be collected through Sindh Bank and other designated banks, he said.
The minister said the subsidy is being provided on the special instructions of Chairperson of PPP Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to support wheat farmers during the current cropping season.
He added that during the first phase of the programme, the Sindh government had already provided subsidies to farmers on DAP fertiliser, and the second phase aims to further ease input costs for wheat growers across the province.
