Basant command, control centre to be set up in DC office

LAHORE : Commissioner Marryam Khan directed for establishing a Basant central command and control centre in DC office here Wednesday.

The decision was taken in a meeting held on ‘Safe Basant’ arrangements in Lahore district. The commissioner said that during Basant from February 6 to 8, all departments will be supporting the district administration and police. She said according to Basant zones, Lesco should start work on a priority basis to secure the electricity wires, prepare an 1122 rescue plan and all aspects must be covered.

She said that all administrative departments, federal departments will be on high alert, all departments will be on round-the-clock duty and teams will be present in the field. The meeting reviewed the duties of departments. Officers of all departments performing duties for Basant arrangements gave a briefing. They said that PERA-Force and civil defence personnel will also perform duties.

Under the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025, motorcyclists will be required to install safety wires/rods. Citizens should play a key role in making Basant safe.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of DC Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ejaz Tiwana, the District Administration Lahore has completed all administrative preparations for the restoration of safe Basant and cultural activities in the province according to the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Under the supervision of DC Lahore, the registration process through the Basant Portal and E-Biz App was continuing transparently, under which 12 associations, 683 kite makers, 1,088 kite and string sellers, and 218 traders have completed their enrolment so far.

The district administration has clarified that during Basant, to be held on February 6, 7, and 8, the protection of human lives will be prioritised at all costs, and a complete ban will remain on the preparation and sale of dangerous metallic string, nylon, and plastic string.

DC has directed that the sale of kites and strings will only be allowed from February 1 to 8, and all makers will be bound to produce strings only according to government-approved standards. Special teams of the district administration are active in monitoring markets, and control room number 03070002345 has also been issued to report illegal activities.
