Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has emphasised that the Sindh Institute of Advanced Endoscopy and Gastroenterology (SIAG) realises a vision of accessible and high-quality medical care for every citizen.

He expressed these views on Sunday while addressing the second anniversary celebration of the SIAG, praising the institute as a shining example of public-private partnership in delivering world-class healthcare to the masses. The event was attended by Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, SIAG Executive Director Prof Saad Khalid Niaz, medical professionals, private sector partners and other guests at the Dow University Auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, the CM reiterated that the SIAG embodied his government’s vision of accessible and high-quality care for every citizen. “Excellence in health care is a right of the people, not a privilege of the few,” he declared. In just two years, the SIAG has emerged as one of Pakistan’s most advanced public-sector endoscopy centres, offering free professional services with dignity, he said.

The CM credited his government’s policy framework, infrastructure and accountability, combined with private partners’ expertise and technology, for creating a sustainable model comparable to international standards.

Housed in a heritage building at the Civil Hospital Karachi restored by architect Shahid Abdullah, the SIAG symbolised the province’s commitment to preserving history while expanding public health capacity, Shah said, adding that under the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government, broader reforms introduced in the health sector included upgrading tertiary hospitals, enhancing emergency care, improving maternal and child health, developing specialised centres in cardiology and oncology, ensuring transparent procurement, and strengthening healthcare professional training.

The CM also noted the SIAG’s role in building local expertise through physician training and announced plans for satellite centres in Sindh’s peripheral regions to decentralise services, reduce the burden on urban hospitals and ensure timely care across the province. Congratulating the SIAG team, Dow University of Health Sciences, health department and all partners, the CM reaffirmed the provincial government’s full support.
