ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held another meeting on Wednesday in preparation for the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women, to be hosted by Pakistan this year.
There are nearly 57 member states in the OIC but the number of states that will attend the 2026 conference in Islamabad is not confirmed at this time. However, the ministry has not announced any dates, venue in Islamabad, nor details of the agenda for the OIC ministerial conference, which is being held after nearly five years.
The conference, held approximately every four to five years, gathers ministers from OIC member states to review progress on women’s rights, share national policies and adopt new frameworks.
Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired the committee which reflected Pakistan’s commitment to advancing women’s issues within the OIC framework and beyond.
He also highlighted that the upcoming conference reflects Pakistan’s commitment to promoting women’s rights and strengthening their role across social, economic and political spheres, said the Foreign Office. In this regard, he instructed the committee to finalise arrangements, logistics and thematic sessions, ensuring smooth organisation and close coordination among relevant ministries and the OIC Secretariat.
