LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has introduced the SME Registration Portal (SMERP), a new initiative aimed at improving transparency and convenience for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The portal enables online registration of SMEs and the issuance of SMEDA SME Size Certificates through a fully digital process with minimal human intervention, intended to enhance efficiency, transparency and ease of access for businesses nationwide.
SMERP has been designed to create a comprehensive and reliable database of SMEs to support research, evidence-based policymaking and the effective alignment of government interventions with the needs of the sector.
To strengthen transparency and verification, SMEDA has integrated application programming interfaces from the National Database and Registration Authority, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) into the portal.
Registration on SMERP and applications for the SME Size Certificate are voluntary. However, eligible manufacturing SMEs with annual turnover of up to Rs250 million may qualify for a reduced tax rate under the 14th Schedule of the Finance Act 2021 upon obtaining the certificate through the portal.
