KARACHI: The success of Pakistan Idol has reached new heights of popularity and is now being discussed worldwide.
For the first time in the history of the show, a special tribute was presented to the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, creating a memorable moment for viewers. Renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, along with his son Shah Zaman Ali Khan, mesmerised the audience with the magic of their voices.
Speaking to Jang, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that Pakistan Idol is a platform based on merit and justice, which is bringing forward fresh talent from across the country. He remarked that an artist of the stature of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan may not be born again even in the next hundred years. He added that evergreen Pakistani film and non-film songs are receiving immense appreciation when presented in new voices, while the show’s grand and attractive set has also become a major center of attention.
The future superstars participating in the program appeared confident and happy, with dreams in their eyes that seemed close to becoming reality. Pakistan Idol head Badar Ikram and talent director Tanveer Afridi were also present on the occasion.
Responding to a question, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said that Pakistan Idol is uncovering immense talent, as Pakistan’s youth possess countless musical abilities. He said the show is still ongoing and even more talent will emerge in the coming episodes. He emphasized that Pakistan Idol is not only a fair platform but also provides proper training to artists, teaching them the finer nuances of music.
He expressed confidence that after this show, the trend of learning music among the youth will increase significantly. In response to another question, he said that while there may be many singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, no artist has yet emerged who can match the greatness of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He said that the tribute presented to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on Pakistan Idol was a heartfelt honor.
Shah Zaman Ali Khan also captivated the audience with his vocal performance during the tribute. This marked his first television appearance.
