BOGOTA: At least 16 people were killed on Sunday when a bus carrying schoolchildren plunged into a ravine in Colombia, according to local media reports.
The youths were on a field trip from Colombia´s Caribbean region to Medellin when the accident occurred, Andres Julian Rendon, the governor of Antioquia Department, said in a post on X.
“So far, more than a dozen people have been reported dead and 20 injured. The entire hospital network has been activated to attend to and support this emergency,” Rendon said.
The Infobae online newspaper reported that 16 people had died, that the students were 11th graders and there were 45 people on the bus.
Governor Rendon said the bus was carrying students from the Liceo Antioqueno in Bello, a city in his department.
