LAHORE: The 15th day of the Winter Meeting at the Lahore Race Club produced a balanced mix of expected victories and surprise upsets on Sunday, as three races went to the favourites while the other three saw longshots and place contenders steal the spotlight.
The opener delivered an upset when Pakiza, an unknown contender at 2/1, surged ahead of favourite Royal Stone to claim victory. My Handsome added further surprise by finishing on the podium, leaving punters stunned in the maiden sprint.
A blanket finish thrilled spectators as King Asia produced the biggest shock of the day, edging past favourite Pride of Chandrai, who settled for second. Sher Dil also surprised by clinching third place in a tightly contested sprint.
The third race went according to script, with favourite Dawood Prince scoring an effortless victory. Haseeb Barbarian, tipped as a fluke, justified his billing by finishing second, while Jungle Di Star astonished with a strong third-place run.
Favourite Dubawi’s Angel lived up to expectations, flying away to win convincingly. Be A Man surprised with a runner-up finish, while National Colour added another unexpected twist by securing third.
Favourite Dilbar came home strongly to claim the feature race of the day. Feel My Love, marked as a fluke, impressed with second place, while Flight Line surprised many by finishing third. The final race saw Sher Khan, guided by jockey M. Hanif, ride home to victory as the place favourite. Loud And Clear justified fluke predictions with second place, while favourite Ameera had to settle for third in a competitive maiden.
