LAHORE:In line with the vision of CM Maryam Nawaz to ensure safety of citizens’ lives and property on provincial highways, an agreement has been finalised between Punjab Police and National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) regarding joint checking for passengers’ safety and security.
IG Dr Usman Anwar and Additional IG National Highways & Motorway Police Saad Akhtar Bharwana signed an MoU related to safety and security cooperation at Central Police Office Lahore.
A spokesperson for Punjab Police stated that joint safety operations and a hotline between both forces have been activated. Joint checking of public service vehicles at specific points on the motorway has already begun from Wednesday night. During the process, data of drivers, conductors, and helpers is being collected, and unverified staff will not be allowed to enter the motorway.
The IG said real-time intelligence sharing has been initiated on national highways to prevent terrorism, smuggling, and movement of stolen vehicles. Both forces will further strengthen the security system through highway monitoring, data sharing, and the use of modern technology. Immediate alerts will be issued regarding suspicious individuals entering or moving on national highways, while a joint traffic management plan of both forces will remain active during fog and holiday seasons.
