ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Islamabad/Rawalpindi, has launched a major reform drive in the housing sector by uncovering another large-scale fraud committed by housing societies against regulators — the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA).

Sources told Jang on Sunday night that NAB’s investigation found that several approved housing societies failed to transfer their community commercial plots — allocated for parks, schools, hospitals — and other mortgaged land to the regulators as required by law. In many cases, only partial transfers were made, while some societies illegally issued and sold plot files for this land, putting citizens at risk of significant financial losses.

To address these irregularities, the NAB initiated a coordinated operation, holding multiple high-level meetings at its office with senior management of CDA and RDA. Senior officers of both regulators participated, and detailed records of various societies were examined. As a result, owners of several housing societies admitted their violations and pledged immediate corrective action — commitments that remain unfulfilled to date.

Meanwhile, CDA and RDA have begun issuing show-cause notices to the societies involved, following NAB’s efforts.

According to sources, the process of transferring land worth billions of rupees to CDA and RDA is currently underway. Comprehensive details will be shared by top NAB officials in a special electronic media briefing on the World Anti-Corruption Day.
