Traffic law enforcement intensified in Punjab

LAHORE:In a major 24-hour crackdown on traffic rules violations across Punjab, police arrested 3,195 drivers and registered 3,215 cases.

During the operations, 12,814 vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws were impounded at various police stations. The spokesperson said that 50,480 challans were issued, generating fines of more than Rs63 million. Action against smoke-emitting vehicles included 3,511 challans, 384 impounded vehicles, and the seizure of three fitness certificates. Across Punjab, 42,561 driving licences were issued in a single day. Over the past week, more than 257,000 challans were issued and fines exceeding Rs203 million collected. Lahore Traffic Police accelerated enforcement operations, registering nearly 1,800 cases in the past 72 hours.

According to the spokesperson, the highest number of FIRs—1,370—were filed for one-way violations. Another 174 drivers were booked for driving without a licence, while 30 cases were registered against individuals who allowed underage children to drive. More than 600 vehicles of over 55 government departments were stopped for unpaid e-challans and released only after fines were cleared.

Three injured in car-bike collision

Three people were injured in a traffic accident in Main Market, Gulberg, on Sunday.According to Rescue officials, the incident occurred when a car collided with a motorcycle, causing the bike to burst into flames.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot, extinguished the fire, and provided first aid to the injured before shifting them to hospital. Officials said the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Police also arrived at the scene and started legal proceedings.

Rickshaw driver held over harassing woman

Police arrested a rickshaw driver in the Liaqatabad police area after he allegedly harassed a woman passenger.The woman had hired the rickshaw from Gulberg to return home. According to investigators, near the railway crossing the driver grabbed her arm and attempted to harass her, prompting her to immediately report the incident.A case was registered against the suspect, M Ali, who was handed over to the Investigation Wing.

Woman found dead

A woman was found dead in the limits of Nishtar Colony police on Sunday.The victim, identified as Aqsa, was married to a man named Arsalan eight years ago. According to the police, the no visible marks of torture were found on her body. Nishtar Colony Police reached the scene and shifted the body to the morgue. Forensic experts collected evidence from the spot to help determine the cause of death.
