ISLAMABAD: On October 30, 2022, he left Pakistan, citing threats to his life, and reached the United Kingdom, where he stated he was constantly changing his location to avoid danger. Yet, in less than ten months after fleeing the country, he managed to jointly purchase a luxurious 2 Kanal house worth $1.05 million in Potomac, Maryland—one of the posh areas in the United States. What is the source of his income? In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said they sold their old family house in the UK to buy the property in the U.S.

Publicly available records from UK Companies House and the UK Land Registry show that his wife purchased a property in 2006 and sold it in April 2023. However, this property was never declared in Pakistan, making it a clear case of asset concealment under Pakistan’s tax laws. In addition, official records in Pakistan show that his wife has no declared source of income.

In under ten months, he went from claiming security threats to finalizing a luxury real estate deal in one of the posh neighborhoods of the U.S. Public records reveal that Dr. Moeed Hassan Pirzada, a journalist/YouTuber and his wife jointly purchased the million-dollar property in Maryland state. After Imran Khan was removed as Prime Minister, Dr. Moeed — a British-Pakistani dual national — launched a visibly pro-Imran Khan campaign on his YouTube channel. He later claimed he was under threat of arrest and quietly left Pakistan a few months after the former premier’s government was ousted.

The publicly available information about the US properties on https://www.homes.com reveal that the 2 Kanal house includes 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a private office, separate living and family rooms, a landscaped lot, and both an attached and front-facing 2-car garage. Listed in July 2023, the property was sold on August 15 2023 to Najma Naheed Pirzada and Moeed Hassan Pirzada. Since the purchase, the property’s estimated value has risen by $131,550—placing its current worth estimated at $1.2 million. On his X post Dr. Moeed Pirzada has claimed that they purchased the property by selling a house in the United Kingdom and all the funds were transferred through legal banking channels to the United States.

As per the public record available at www.homes.com the listed price of this 1972-built house was $965,000, but Dr. Moeed Pirzada purchased it for $1,055,000. The deed of mortgage — a copy of which is available with this scribe (anyone can obtain it by signing up at Maryland land record website) reveals that Dr. Moeed and his wife signed a mortgage deed with Movement Mortgage LLC to secure a $550,000 mortgage at an interest rate of 6.78%.

To my question sent “How did Dr. Moeed Pirzada and his wife pay the $505,000 down payment for their U.S. property?” This has been answered by Pirzada himself in a public post on X (formerly Twitter), where he stated that the funds came from the sale of their old family home in the United Kingdom. According to the UK Land Registry — a publicly available record — his wife purchased a property titled NGL596292 on 13 October 2006 for £420,000. Later, a charge was registered on the property on 3 November 2008.

The UK Land Registry document shows that the UK property was sold on April 13, 2023, almost five months before the house purchase in the United States. The sale price was £885,000, paid on the same date. The property, had remained in the possession of Moeed Pirzada’s wife since October 13, 2006. A charge was registered on the property on November 3, 2008. Official records from Pakistan reveal that this UK property was never declared by either Pirzada or his wife, despite both being registered taxpayers.

Before selling the UK property, Pirzada registered a company MNP Multimedia LLC in March 2023. However, the official record of the Maryland state shows that MNP Multimedia LLC was registered on March 3, 2023 — just a few months before the Potomac property was purchased in August. Then, in September 2023, the company updated its official address to the newly acquired luxury house. As of now, the company has not filed any annual financial report.

Pirzada earlier in his X post stated that the U.S. property was bought using proceeds from the sale of their family home in the UK. Both Pirzada and his wife are British citizens who obtained U.S. green cards and currently hold Resident Alien status in the United States. Before leaving Pakistan, they operated an organization called Global Village Space. While Pirzada was an active taxpayer in Pakistan, his wife was also registered with the tax authority but did not file tax returns or pay any taxes until 2022. Pirzada’s admission of selling the UK property, the UK Land Registry document, and Pakistan’s official records confirm that the property was concealed from Pakistani tax authorities.

A detailed questionnaire with 13 queries was sent to Dr. Moeed Pirzada via email, his U.S. phone number, and Pakistani WhatsApp number. Instead of replying to this correspondent’s questions, Dr. Moeed Pirzada shared his response on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We sold our old family home in the UK and transferred funds through proper banking channels.”

The News sent Moeed Pirzada and Najma Naheed Pirzada a follow-up questionnaire containing the following four queries. However, no response has been received from them:

1. Is it a fact that you and your Mrs. Najma Naheed purchased a property titled NGL596292 on 13 October 2006 for £420,000? Later, a charge was registered on the property on 3 November 2008? What was the source of income to buy this UK property?

2. Is it a fact that the above-mentioned property remained in your possession for almost 17 years and you sold it on April 13, 2023? The sale price of the property was £885,000. What was the charge amount on the said property?

3. Is it a fact that you and Ms. Najma Naheed Pirzada were registered as taxpayers in Pakistan in 1997?

4. Since you owned this property from 2006 to 2023, did you and Ms. Najma Naheed declare this property with the tax authority in Pakistan?
