KARACHI: All public and private educational institutions in Sindh will now observe Saturdays and Sundays as weekly holidays under a revised schedule approved by the chief secretary.
Under the revised schedule, teaching activities will take place from Monday to Friday, reducing the academic week to five working days.
The department said teaching hours would be extended by one hour to ensure the continuation of academic activities and completion of the curriculum.
The decision will apply to all public and private educational institutions across Sindh, the spokesperson added.
Last month, the provincial government had announced that all government and private schools across the province would operate six days a week from August 1, with an official notification issued.
"It is hereby notified that all Public & Private Educational Institutions under the Administrative Control of School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall observe a six-day working in the week (Monday to Saturday) with effect from August 1, 2026, till further orders," read the notification.
The decision comes almost a week after the reopening of schools following a two-month-long summer vacation, from June 1 to July 31.
