ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a certificate to Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) (PMLF), recognising its intra-party elections.
All the office-bearers, including President Syed Sibghatullah Shah and Secretary General Shahid Mehmood Khan, have been elected unopposed.
The Section 208 (1) of the Elections Act 2017 mandates that a political party enlisted with the ECP must periodically elect its office-bearers at the federal, provincial and local levels in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Issuance of certificate concerning intra-party elections of a political party qualifies it for an election symbol to take part in electoral processes.
Similarly, the Election Commission has also notified the intra-party elections conducted by Muttahida Ulema Mashaikh Council of Pakistan. The electoral process was held on May 18 this year.
Malik Safdar Ali Awan has been elected the party head and general secretary’s post has gone to Malik Usman Azam.
