Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho on Friday directed the establishment of a centralised and integrated emergency response system.

The initiative aimed to bring various Sindh police emergency departments under a single, unified provincial mechanism to provide faster and more coordinated assistance to citizens.

According to officials, a high-level meeting chaired by the IG Sindh was held at the Central Police Office (CPO) in Karachi to discuss the framework of the proposed system. The session was attended by key officials, including the DIGs of Highway Patrol, Headquarters, and Information Technology (IT); the Director General of the Sindh Safe Cities Authority; officials from Transport & Telecommunications (T&T); the SSP of the Special Security Unit (SSU); the SP of Madadgar-15 Karachi; the AIG Administration; and the Project Director of IT.

During the meeting, the project director delivered a detailed briefing on the operational status of the Sindh Police’s existing emergency services, highlighting their organisational structures, response mechanisms, and performance metrics. The forum was informed that multiple emergency helpline numbers and scattered government entities currently manage emergency responses across the province.

To eliminate confusion and delays, the participants discussed the necessity of consolidating these services under a single central emergency number and an integrated response grid. According to the proposal, the existing Madadgar-15 helpline would be reengineered and linked to a state-of-the-art emergency response infrastructure spanning the entire province.

Under this proposed centralised mechanism, incoming emergency calls from citizens would be instantly routed to the relevant district police, emergency service, or rescue agency. Furthermore, the platform would maintain an end-to-end digital audit trail of the entire response process, tracking the timeline from the initial call placement to the final resolution of the incident.

Odho directed the formation of a specialised committee, to be led by the Additional IG Operations, to oversee the implementation of the unified emergency system. This committee was tasked with conducting a comprehensive assessment of all active emergency operations across Sindh. It would subsequently submit a feasibility report covering integration requirements, technical infrastructure, projected financial costs, and human resource allocations.
