LAHORE: The federal and provincial Information Commissions are set to deliberate on strengthening the right to information (RTI) regime and enhancing public access to reliable information in the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) era at a national forum and multi-stakeholder seminar in Islamabad on Oct 7.
The programme, being convened by the Unesco Office in Pakistan in collaboration with the National Forum of Information Commissioners (NFIC), will mark Pakistan’s engagement with the 2026 International Day for Universal Access to Information, observed annually on Sept 28. The Eighth National Forum of Information Commissioners and National Multi-Stakeholder Seminar will be held under the global theme, “Access to Information for Enhancing Information Integrity”, focusing on the quality, reliability, authenticity and accessibility of information in rapidly changing digital information ecosystems shaped increasingly by AI.
The event is aimed at linking institutional efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s transparency and accountability framework with a broader national discussion on information integrity, digital governance, AI, journalism and inclusive access to information.
