Muhammad Jamil, parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC), has welcomed an agreement to complete a dedicated water pipeline from Dumlottee within 12 months, describing it as a major step toward addressing chronic water shortages in Defence and Clifton.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony attended by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and senior officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) late last week. Jamil also attended the ceremony.
Speaking to residents of his constituency, Jamil said the project would provide an additional 10 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to Defence and Clifton upon completion. He said the project was a joint initiative of the Sindh government and the KWSC and reflected the provincial administration’s efforts to improve Karachi’s water supply system.
“Since winning this constituency twice, it has been my great dream to ensure that residents of DHA have access to a reliable water supply,” he said. “The completion of this project will provide much-needed relief to residents of Defence and Clifton, who have been facing persistent water shortages,” Jamil said.
He thanked Mayor Wahab, Brig. Imran Asghar, station commander of CBC, Omar Farooq Malik, CBC’s CEO, MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig and Najmi Alam for their efforts to make the project possible. He added that the PPP-led provincial government was working to make Karachi’s water supply system more efficient, reliable and sustainable.
