Technology has brought us enormous benefits, but our relationship with it is changing the way we communicate, concentrate and spend our time. A family may sit together while everyone remains occupied with a separate screen. Young people may have hundreds of online connections yet struggle to maintain meaningful conversations in real life. Even short periods of silence can feel uncomfortable when we are accustomed to constant digital stimulation.

The real issue is the absence of balance, not technology. Families should encourage screen-free meals and conversations, while schools should promote digital well-being alongside digital skills. Young people should also be encouraged to spend time reading, exercising, meeting friends and participating in community activities.
