Rangers on Saturday arrested a suspected member of the ‘Sheru Group’, allegedly involved in multiple robbery and street crime incidents, during an intelligence-based operation in Lalabad, Sherpao Colony.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspect was identified as Arsalan Shah, son of Abdul Samad. A mobile phone and a 125cc motorcycle without documents were recovered from his possession.

A licence-less .30-bore pistol, along with ammunition allegedly used in criminal activities, was also recovered from the residence of the suspect’s accomplice, the spokesperson said.

He said the arrested suspect, along with his associates, was involved in several incidents of snatching cash, mobile phones and motorcycles at gunpoint in Sherpao Colony, Dawood Chowrangi, Malir, Qayyumabad, Korangi and adjoining areas. The gang members also allegedly injured passers-by who resisted the robberies.

The suspect reportedly sold stolen motorcycles in Sherpao Colony and mobile phones in Quaidabad. Rangers said Arsalan was a habitual offender and that several FIRs had been registered against him at different police stations. He had also previously been arrested by police and sent to jail.

The arrested suspect, along with the recovered items, was handed over to police for further legal action. Efforts are under way to arrest his other accomplices.
