PESHAWAR: An accountability court here on Friday sent the owner of a private construction company, Saifullah Khan, to jail on judicial remand in the Upper Kohistan financial scandal.

The case was heard by Accountability Court Judge Mohammad Zafar.

During the hearing, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigating officer told the court that more than Rs36.63 billion had been illegally withdrawn from a government account in the Kohistan financial scandal.

The investigation revealed that the accused was also allegedly involved in the scam. According to the investigating officer, Saifullah Khan is the sole owner of a private construction company that maintains an account with the HBL Dasu branch.

The officer alleged that the accused, in connivance with others, obtained illegal treasury cheques worth Rs45.5 million and transferred the funds into the company’s account. The money was allegedly proceeds of corruption and other crimes.

The investigating officer told the court that further physical remand of the accused was not required.
