Operation against illegal gold mining: DC Kohat convoy comes under fire

KOHAT: The convoy of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nawaz came under fire as he was returning from an operation against illegal gold mining in Rehmanabad village of Shakardara on the Indus River, officials said on Saturday. The deputy commissioner and Assistant Commissioner Lachi had launched the operation against illegal gold mining in the area.

According to the district administration, local people and those allegedly involved in illegal gold mining staged a protest against the administration as the officials were returning from the operation and opened fire on the deputy commissioner’s convoy. No loss of life was reported in the firing.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nawaz said strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the firing.
