Every year, large areas of farmland are being cleared for housing projects, which can negatively impact our environment. More concrete and fewer trees can make cities hotter, reduce groundwater levels and increase the effects of extreme weather.

The government should strictly control the conversion of agricultural land into housing societies and properly enforce zoning laws. Planned and vertical housing can also help provide homes without using large areas of fertile farmland.
