KARAK: A police constable was martyred and another sustained injuries when unidentified armed men opened fire on a police mobile van during routine patrolling near Shankai Dam in the limits of Sabirabad Police Station on Wednesday.
Constable Zafran was martyred in the attack, while Constable Muhammad Imtiaz sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital.
According to police, the incident occurred when the police mobile was on routine patrol late Tuesday night. Following the attack, police launched a search and strike operation in the area to arrest the assailants.
District Police Officer, Karak, Imran Khan, reached the scene along with additional police personnel after receiving information about the incident. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the arrest of attackers.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of martyred constable, Zafran, was offered at the Police Lines Karak with full official honours. Later, the body of Constable Zafran was shifted to his native area under official protocol, where he would be laid to rest according to local customs and traditions.
