ISLAMABAD: The government raised the price of diesel by Rs6.72 per litre and petrol by Rs3.40 per litre, with the new rates taking effect on Thursday.

The increases will deepen pressure on transport costs and consumer goods across the country.

The Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division announced on Wednesday that the price of diesel would rise to Rs392.67 from Rs385.95 per litre, while petrol would increase to Rs367.75 from the earlier price of Rs364.35 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) set the new rates under the federal government’s revised petroleum pricing mechanism, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
