The family of a 16-year-old boy who was killed during a robbery at his home in Manghopir continued their protest outside the Manghopir police station on Wednesday, demanding the arrest of those responsible for his killing.
The victim’s father, Ruidad Khan, said his only demand was the arrest of his son’s killers and vowed to continue the sit-in until justice was served. The teenager, Rosham, was shot dead by robbers during a house robbery in Mehran City in the early hours of Tuesday. The suspects escaped after the incident.
Following the killing, the victim’s family and area residents placed his body outside the Manghopir police station and staged a protest. Speaking during the protest, Khan said several armed robbers entered his house after cutting through an iron grille. He said the house was located in an isolated area, prompting the family to install strong grilles and doors for security.
He said the robbers used specialised tools to cut through the grille and entered the house without the family noticing. He said the family members were awake at the time. The robbers kicked the door of the room where he was sitting, but he refused to open it. The suspects then opened fire at the door.
Hearing the gunshots, Rosham came out of another room, prompting the robbers to fire at him. The family then heard someone shout that Rosham had been shot. The victim’s father said he managed to escape through a window while the suspects continued firing at the door of his room.
He further claimed that one of the robbers was wearing a police uniform. The family later learned that the man was not a police officer but a robber.
Meanwhile, DIG West Irfan Ali Baloch took notice of the killing and suspended Manghopir SHO Raja Zulfiqar Haider over alleged negligence and failure to control crime in the area. SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi also constituted a special team to arrest the suspects involved in the murder.
According to a notification, the team would be headed by the Manghopir SDPO and include the Sarjani Town SDPO, SHOs of Manghopir, Pakistan Bazaar, Orangi Town and Pirabad, the in-charge of the Muhammad Khan police post, personnel from the Bhains Colony police post, the district technical team and other officers. The special team had been tasked with tracing and arresting the suspects involved in the robbery and killing.
