Robbers shot dead a 40-year-old man in front of his son after he resisted a robbery on West Wharf Road in the Docks area, fleeing with Rs1 million in cash.

The incident has taken the number of people killed in Karachi this year over resisting robberies to 53, according to available figures. Police said the incident occurred on West Wharf Road, where two robbers riding a motorcycle targeted Moin Akhtar while he was carrying Rs1 million withdrawn from a private bank in the area.

Moin was travelling with his son when the suspects intercepted them and attempted to snatch the cash. When he resisted, the robbers opened fire, hitting him in the chest. He died from his injuries.

Edhi volunteers transported the victim’s body to the Civil Hospital. The deceased worked at a private office and was the father of three children—two sons and a daughter. He originally belonged to Lahore.

Man shot dead

In another incident, a 30-year-old man was shot dead by an unidentified armed man who allegedly entered his house in Shah Town, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, within the jurisdiction of the Bin Qasim police station.

According to the victim’s brother, Abdul Manan, the suspect was a robber who entered the house while the family was asleep. When the victim, identified as Najeebullah, son of Abdul Rabbab, woke up and tried to catch the intruder, the suspect opened fire and fled.

Najeebullah sustained two bullet wounds and died on the spot. His body was taken to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities. His brother, Abdul Manan, told police that Najeebullah was a father of two and the youngest of six brothers. He worked as a truck driver and originally belonged to Mohmand district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The police said the incident did not appear to be a robbery and could have stemmed from an old enmity or personal dispute.
