MANSEHRA: The Upper Kohistan grand jirga, attended by clerics, elders and former local government representatives, has warned of punitive action against social media influencers allegedly making ‘immoral’ comments about the creation of a new administrative unit in Hazara division.

“This grand jirga from all four tehsils of Upper Kohistan has unanimously decided to condemn and impose fines on those social media influencers who have been harming the unity of the people and provoking confrontations through immoral comments and contests in our district,” Raja Arif Sazeen, advocate, told the media at the end of a marathon jirga held in Dasu on Wednesday.

The jirga, attended by elders and clerics from Dasu, Harban-Basha, Kandia and Suo tehsils, announced that the people of the entire Upper Kohistan would remain on the same page on the issue of creating more federating units in Hazara and the rest of the country.

“The people of Jalkot would not attend the jirga in Pattan (Lower Kohistan), which is scheduled to be held to decide the future line of action on whether the Kohistan districts should be included in Hazara province or not, or to float any other proposal,” said Sazeen.

The former tehsil chairman Dasu, Ghulam Saeed, told the media that the jirga also demanded that the general manager of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) settle all issues faced by Kohistani labourers working on the Dasu Hydropower Project.
