Islamabad:Chairman Founder Group ICCI Tariq Sadiq has said that the economy can be placed on a stronger footing when the business community and government institutions work together. Effective representation of the business community in key decision-making institutions is the need of the hour, while the strength of the Founder Group lies in its unity, organization and the confidence of the business community, says a press release.
He expressed these views while addressing a dinner hosted by Wajid Ayub, Javeed Ullah Wazir and the business community of Tarnol in honour of the Founder Group leadership and candidates in connection with the upcoming elections of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
Council Members Abdul Rauf Alam, Khalid Javed, Zafar Bakhtawari, Khalid Iqbal Malik, Aamir Waheed, Chaudhry Masood and Chaudhry Waheed-ud-Din, along with a large number of traders, were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Tariq Sadiq said that the Founder Group has always raised its voice for the rights and business interests of the trading community. He stressed the need for traders to set aside differences and elect their representatives through unity so that business-related issues could be effectively raised before the relevant forums through the platform of the Chamber.
Wajid Ayub , addressing the gathering, said, “Our life and commitment are with the Founder Group, and we are working day and night for its success. We have stood with the Founder Group for the last 10 years and will continue to remain loyal to it. Those whom we support should know it, and those whom we oppose should also know that we stand firmly by our principles.”
He said that the leaders of the Founder Group have been serving the business community and the city of Islamabad for the last 40 years. The way the group remains united and organized, he said, is an example that is difficult to find even in a single political party. He added that the presence of 280 voters at the event was a clear indication of the group’s strength, with nearly 50 percent of the voters attending the gathering.
Former ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari said that as discussions about the creation of new provinces are taking place in the country, the business community should consider laying the foundation of an Islamabad Businessmen and Citizens Party today. He called upon businessmen to contest elections for the proposed assembly from their respective constituencies so that the city could have genuine representation.
