From leading global climate strikes to shifting election outcomes in major democracies, Gen-Z is actively reshaping the world. In Pakistan, however, the same generation appears to be inactive, disengaged and afraid to take part in politics. Why are our young people stepping back? From a young age, students in our schools and colleges are explicitly taught to stay away from politics. By discouraging student unions and silencing civic debates on our campuses, we are raising a generation of mere degree holders, not active and responsible citizens. If we want Pakistan to move forward, we must stop demonising political engagement in our educational institutions. We must teach civic responsibility and encourage our Gen-Z to step up, challenge the system and take the reins of leadership.
