Pakistan is debating the creation of more provinces to improve administrative efficiency, governance and resource distribution. I believe creating new provincial capitals, assemblies and high courts will only add to the massive financial burden on an already overtaxed national economy.

Instead, the authorities should focus on establishing legislation to strengthen existing provincial controls and improve the efficacy of the current provincial heads.

Pakistan has been facing a lot of problems such as terror attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There are many street crimes in major cities as well and the country has also been suffering from economic issues. Meanwhile, the government is seeking to create more provinces in the country to stabilise the economic conditions.

Given our fragile situation, the government should deliberate on the country’s existing crises. The solution is not to create new provinces but to empower local governments to ensure law and order and stabilise the economy.
