A man was killed and another seriously injured when an armed robber opened fire during a robbery attempt at Mewashah graveyard near Gutter Baghicha in the jurisdiction of the Pak Colony police station.

The victims were immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital, where the deceased was identified as 25- to 30-year-old Abdul Rehman and the injured as 55-year-old Atiq, son of Ishaq. Rehman was reportedly working at a nearby warehouse.

According to Pak Colony SHO Faisal Gul, citizens often use a route through the Mewashah graveyard as a shortcut while travelling from Gutter Baghicha towards Jahanabad. The SHO said an armed man on foot first attempted to rob an elderly citizen inside the graveyard. When the man resisted, the suspect opened fire, hitting him in the leg and seriously injuring him. Meanwhile, two men riding a motorcycle passed through the area. The suspect allegedly tried to rob them as well. The motorcyclists resisted and attempted to apprehend him, prompting the robber to open fire. Rehman sustained a bullet wound to the abdomen and died at the scene. The suspect fled on foot towards Jahanabad. The police recovered two spent .30-bore pistol casings from the crime scene and took them into custody as evidence. An investigation was under way. SHO Gul said the suspect was believed to be a resident of the nearby locality and that efforts were being made to identify and arrest him.
