PESHAWAR: Police arrested several protesters during a student protest at the Post Graduate Nursing Institute in Hayatabad on Monday.
I was learnt that male and female students were staging a protest in front of the institution, demanding steps for resolution of their issues. The administration alleged some faculty members were harassed during the protest, following which police were called to the scene. Police tried to clear the area, but the protesters refused to disperse, leading to a clash between the students and police.
The students alleged that one of the female protesters was wounded and several others were arrested.Police officials, however, said the protesters attacked the police and damaged a police vehicle by throwing stones, following which some of them were arrested.
A list of 27 students who allegedly stirred the trouble was handed over to the police later. The principal of the institute told the media that there were allegations against two male students who were directed to appear before an inquiry committee.
She said the students rejected the committee and along with a large number of others broke into the administration and harassed the faculty members including females after which police were called.
