LAHORE:The Environment Protection & Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), Punjab launched new forecast and satellite-based features for Punjab’s real-time Air Quality Dashboard in collaboration with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The initiative was part of Punjab’s ongoing transformation of environmental governance. The initiative is led by Secretary EP&CCD Ms Silwat Saeed with the contribution from CPTC DG Ms Amina Muneer.

The AQI Punjab Dashboard was the first platform of its kind in Pakistan to receive international recognition from ICIMOD. The platform is powered by 59 state-of-the-art Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AQMS) installed across Punjab and provides real-time air quality information automatically, without human intervention.

With the new integration, the dashboard will combine data from ground monitoring stations, satellites, weather information and air pollution forecasting systems. This will help Punjab better understand where pollution is coming from, identify pollution hotspots and predict how air quality may change in the coming hours and days.

Speaking at the launch, EPA Punjab DG Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh said that Punjab has made significant progress over the past two years in strengthening environmental governance through modern technology, digital monitoring and science-based decision-making. He highlighted that EPA Punjab has expanded its air quality monitoring network from just three stations in Lahore in 2024 to 59 state-of-the-art AQMS across Punjab, with plans to further expand the network to 100 stations across the province.
