LAHORE:The Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education, Punjab has issued a letter to the Executive Director, Inter-Board Coordination Commission, to review the Equivalence Criteria of Cambridge educational qualifications for admissions to medical colleges.

Under the prevailing system for admission to medical colleges, merit is determined by combining the marks obtained in Matriculation/FSc or its equivalent educational qualifications with the marks in MDCAT. The result could be a disproportionate gap between students who score exceptionally high in the Cambridge system and those who score in the traditional FSC system. Thus, students who have performed exceptionally well in the O/A levels and secured the highest possible grades are at a comparative disadvantage in the highly competitive medical admissions process.
