MANSEHRA: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Mohammad Yousuf has said that the establishment of new administrative units in the country would create large-scale employment opportunities.

“Yes, I am sure that once more federating units are created, the current high inflation and other challenges faced by the federal government might be addressed, as more employment opportunities would be created and through good governance, local resources could also be utilised more efficiently,” he told reporters on Saturday.

Sardar Yousuf, who is also the chairman of Tehreek-i-Sooba Hazara, said the government was sincerely working on the creation of more federating units in the country and that the move would not, in real terms, amount to dividing existing larger provinces; rather, it would devolve power and help ensure efficient governance and better utilisation of resources.

“I think none should be afraid of losing any rights, ground or autonomy of the existing provinces, as resources and governance would be managed through smaller structures, benefiting the people and enabling them to have better oversight of their resources,” he added.

The federal minister said that Hazara topped the list of possible new administrative units in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country, as people of the region had launched a movement for their own federating unit decades ago and even laid down their lives for the cause.

“Hazara is the only proposed new administrative unit in the country for which the provincial assembly has adopted a resolution twice with an overwhelming majority,” Sardar Yousuf said.

He added that it would be futile at this stage to determine which city would be the provincial capital of Hazara, as the matter would also be decided on merit and according to the wishes of the people.
