Sindh Senior Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon has termed Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement “disappointing”. A statement issued on Saturday quoted Memon as saying that the federal government should clarify whether Asif’s statement represents government policy or personal opinion.

The senior minister said that the rhetoric of federal ministers is tantamount to political aggression against the province. He said Asif should study history, the Constitution and parliamentary records before making statements about Sindh and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

He stressed that the PPP’s stance is neither ambiguous nor two-sided, as it is rather categorical, principled and constitutional. He said the Punjab Assembly has passed resolutions in favour of a Seraiki province twice. The Sindh Assembly, he added, has passed resolutions eight times against the creation of more provinces within Sindh.

Memon remarked that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz should please its allies but avoid making Sindh a scapegoat. He said the PPP has always pursued a policy of strengthening the federation, upholding the Constitution and consolidating the democratic system. The PPP will continue to play its role in strengthening the federation and the democratic system of Pakistan, he added.
