ISLAMABAD: The government raised petrol and high-speed diesel prices on Thursday, with petrol climbing Rs2.84 per litre to Rs349 and diesel increasing Rs2.28 to Rs374.31 for Friday.

The Petroleum Division notified these new rates. Under the revised mechanism, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products. The increase puts diesel at Rs374.31 per litre, up from Rs372.03, while petrol will sell at Rs349 per litre, compared with Rs346.16 previously.

The latest increase comes as Pakistan continues to adjust domestic fuel prices in response to movements in international oil markets and other components of the petroleum pricing formula.

The increase in diesel prices is particularly significant for the economy because the fuel is widely used by trucks, buses, agriculture and other transport-intensive sectors, while petrol prices directly affect millions of motorists and commuters.
