Two constables of the Malir City police station have been suspended after a video about drugs went viral on social media, police said. The Malir SSP took notice of the video and suspended both officials, assigning a transparent and impartial inquiry to the Malir Division SP.
Police said further action would be taken in accordance with the law based on the findings of the inquiry. According to a statement issued by the District Malir police, preliminary information suggested that the two constables were on routine patrol when they stopped and searched a suspicious man and allegedly recovered drugs from his possession. Meanwhile, a man identified as Ehsan arrived at the scene and began recording the police officials on his mobile phone while making various allegations against them. Police said that, according to preliminary reports, Ehsan allegedly resisted the officers, snatched the recovered drugs from them and took the detained suspect away from the scene.
The police spokesperson said Ehsan was reportedly a dismissed excise department employee and had allegedly been involved in similar incidents of misbehaviour and resistance against police personnel in the past. Police also alleged that he had been supporting drug dealers. However, the SSP suspended the two constables to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations. The Malir Division SP has been tasked with conducting a detailed inquiry, and action will be taken under the law once the actual facts emerge.
