ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani chaired a high-level review meeting at the Finance Division on Wednesday to prepare for the upcoming Prime Minister’s Cashless Initiative review. The meeting brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, State Bank of Pakistan, Nadra, Capital Development Authority, Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and private-sector stakeholders.
The minister reviewed progress on the prime minister’s previous directives and outlined key priorities to accelerate Pakistan’s digital financial transformation. A central objective was to review last year’s progress and initiate the setting of annual performance targets for the national Cashless Dashboard for the current fiscal year, as well as introduce new analytical indicators to improve real-time monitoring and data transparency.
Key highlights and strategic focuses of the meeting included evaluating last year’s growth in active digital merchants, total digital transaction volumes and overall digital banking users. The meeting also assessed progress on digitising government payments across State-Owned Enterprises and autonomous bodies, reiterating the objective of fully digitising all vendor, employee and pension payouts.
