PESHAWAR: The Accountability Court on Wednesday handed over private construction company owner Saifullah Khan to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on an eight-day physical remand in connection with the Kohistan financial scandal.
The accused was produced before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Zafar, where his counsel, NAB prosecutor Manik Shah and investigation officer Inayatullah appeared.The NAB prosecutor told the court that more than Rs36.63 billion had been illegally withdrawn from government accounts in the Kohistan financial scandal. He said the accused owned a private construction company and maintained an account at the Habib Bank Limited, Dasu branch.
The prosecutor pleaded that the accused in connivance with others obtained illegal treasury cheques worth Rs45.5 million. He maintained that the transferred funds were proceeds of corruption and other illegal earnings, requesting that further interrogation of the accused was required. The NAB had requested a 14-day physical remand.However, after hearing the arguments, the court granted NAB an eight-day physical remand of Saifullah Khan.
