CHARSADDA: A retired employee of the Education Department died of a cardiac arrest while visiting the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) office here to lodge a complaint against an allegedly excessive power bill.
The deceased, identified as Noor Hassan, had reportedly received an electricity bill of Rs50,000 despite what his family described as negligible meter consumption.His son, Noorullah, alleged that his father had an argument with officials in the meter reading section while seeking correction of the bill.
He said his father’s condition deteriorated during the conversation and he suffered a cardiac arrest. Noorullah alleged that Pesco officials left the office after his father suffered a cardiac arrest. He said a case had been registered against the relevant meter reader, identified as Fayyaz.
However, the Pesco official denied the allegations, saying that there had been no argument or misbehaviour with Noor Hassan at the office. The official said the deceased had approached a court over the electricity bill and, in light of the court’s decision, the bill had already been corrected from Rs50,000 to Rs12,000.
