Rawalpindi: A Sub-Inspector of the Crime Control Department (CCD) was killed in the line of duty during an exchange of fire with suspects within the jurisdiction of the Chaklala Police Station, officials confirmed.
The deceased officer, identified as Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayoor, was actively pursuing a suspect wanted in multiple robbery cases. According to the police sources, the encounter took place near Gulzar-e-Quaid area, where the suspect opened fire upon being cornered.
SI Adnan tried to courageously overpower the gangster but the racketeer opened fire directly at him. Ghayoor sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head during the shootout and embraced martyrdom on the spot. The gunman managed to escape from the scene after killing the CCD officer. During the scuffle, dozens of people gathered around but no one dared to help the officer arrest the suspect.
Heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene immediately after receiving reports of the incident. Authorities have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspect and a further investigation is currently underway.
