LAHORE:Lahore Operations Police has reported a 76 per cent decline in overall crime and an 84 per cent reduction in emergency 15 calls while managing 1,953 law and order situations and more than 13,777 security events, according to data shared by DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran.
Speaking about the police response to the city’s security and law and order demands, DIG Faisal Kamran said the reported decline in crime was linked to intelligent resource management, technology integration, real-time data analysis and targeted surveillance. He said security deployments for rallies, VIP movements and other major assignments had traditionally required personnel to be diverted from routine neighbourhood patrolling.
According to him, Lahore Operations Police had adopted a more integrated approach by using modern IT gadgets, real-time information and targeted surveillance to identify crime hotspots and improve deployment. DIG stressed the importance of leadership on the ground, saying that he and his team participated alongside officers in late-night patrols, security arrangements outside mosques and Imambargahs during Ramazan, market checkpoints and responses at crime scenes.
Lahore Operations Police managed 1,953 public-order situations, comprising 925 protests, 715 rallies, 125 sit-ins and 100 conventions. The groups involved included the Young Doctors Association, Grand Health Alliance, farmers, All Government Employees Grand Alliance, lawyers, traders, political parties, student federations and civil society. DIG said Lahore, as the political and administrative centre of Punjab, naturally attracted activities by different groups seeking to raise their demands. He said peaceful assembly was a right, while police also had to maintain civic stability and public mobility. He said the police strategy focused on early engagement, strategic deployment and de-escalation. Dialogue with organisers and crowd-management protocols were used to manage such situations, while critical or violent protests and rallies required firm execution and clear operational arrangements. The data showed that Lahore Police also managed more than 13,777 security events. These included 308 Prime Ministerial visits, 65 Presidential visits and 2,093 VVIP and VIP visits. Security arrangements also covered 146 ambassadorial visits and 883 foreign visitors. On the religious-security front, police handled arrangements for 15,809 Majalis and 1,974 Muharram processions, besides three Urs events of Data Ganj Bakhsh and Mian Mir and two Raiwind annual congregations. The police also managed security for major sporting and cultural events, including the ICC Champions Trophy, PSL 10 and 11, Pakistan’s cricket series against New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Bangladesh, and the Safe Basant Festival 2026.
