ISLAMABAD: Youngster Hassan Usmani pulled off a major upset, ousting eighth seed Abubakar Talha in a thrilling three-set battle as the first Meinhardt Grade A+ National Ranking Tennis Championship continued at the PTF Complex courts on Wednesday.
Usmani showed remarkable composure and fighting spirit to overcome the experienced Talha 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 and book his place in the third round. The young player maintained his focus under pressure in the deciding set, producing some impressive tennis to close out the contest and secure one of the most notable victories of the championship so far.
Usmani’s breakthrough performance drew praise from Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) officials, who expressed confidence that his progress was a positive sign for the country’s next generation of tennis players. Riding high on confidence after his impressive victory, Usmani will face another tough test in the third round when he takes on national-level player Muhammad Shoaib.
