LAHORE: Pakistan women’s spinners Nashra Sundhu and Tuba Hassan have shed light on the tactical planning behind their team’s 35-run victory over Thailand in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup opener.
Speaking after the match, the two bowlers explained how they adapted to an inconsistent surface, controlled the scoring rate and contributed at crucial moments with both ball and bat. Pakistan defended a total of 119 for nine by restricting Thailand to 84 for eight. Official scorecard data records Nashra’s figures as four overs for six runs and one wicket, while Tuba returned four overs for 17 runs and took two wickets.
Nashra Sundhu said Pakistan’s bowling plans were deliberately straightforward. Rather than attempting elaborate variations, the left-arm spinner focused on maintaining a disciplined line and repeatedly bowling into the right areas.
The pitch offered variable bounce, occasional low movement and unpredictable turn. Under those conditions, Nashra believed that consistency was more valuable than excessive experimentation.
Her approach was based on channel bowling and patience. By keeping the ball in a difficult area, Pakistan’s bowlers allowed the surface to create pressure and waited for Thailand’s batters to make mistakes.
Nashra’s spell was particularly important because the match was played on a low-scoring surface. She completed her four overs for only six runs and claimed one wicket, recording an economy rate of 1.50.
Both Nashra and Tuba observed that the pitch did not behave identically throughout the match. The ball gripped at times, drifted in the air and occasionally stayed lower than expected.
The difference between the two innings required the bowlers to keep reassessing their lengths. A delivery that appeared ideal in one phase could become less effective when the surface changed or when the batters altered their movement.
