The current political situation in the country demands wise, responsible and thoughtful steps from both the government and the opposition. Political differences are natural in a democratic system, but they should not be allowed to damage national institutions, the economy or social harmony. We also should not make rules or principles according to individuals. The same standards should apply to everyone, whether a person is our friend, political ally or opponent. Democracy becomes weak when laws are used differently for different people.
The real need is not merely to change governments. It is to change the system of governance. We need clear rules, strong institutions, effective accountability, decentralisation, political tolerance and continuity of economic policies. Pakistan’s future cannot be secured through political confrontation alone. It requires a national approach in which all stakeholders agree that the country’s interests are greater than the interests of any individual, party or government. We should focus on changing the rules and improving the system rather than simply changing the people who run it.
