ISLAMABAD: The government raised petrol and diesel prices for Sept. 2, with petrol increasing by Rs1.08 a liter and diesel by 51 paisas, adding to fuel costs for consumers and businesses.
The Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) revised the ex-depot prices under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism.
Petrol will now cost Rs343.87 a liter, up from Rs342.79, while diesel that is widely used by the country’s trucking, agricultural and industrial sectors, will rise to Rs370.92 from Rs370.41. The increases are relatively small compared with some of Pakistan’s sharper fuel-price adjustments, but diesel’s higher price remains a key concern for the broader economy. Higher diesel costs can feed into freight charges and, eventually, food prices, as road transport is heavily dependent on the fuel.
